A 1-1 draw against Juventus from Turin, knocked Real Madrid out of the UEFA Champions League, following the 2-1 defeat in the first leg of the semi-finals and prevents the Whites from facing FC Barcelona in a European Clásico in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.

The emotion that is unique to games of this calibre was maintained for 90 minutes. In the first half, against all predictions, the Italians decided to attack and showed a clear idea of their plan on the Real Madrid pitch. The Whites became more comfortable as time passed and Cristiano Ronaldo put Carlo Ancelotti’s men ahead in the 22’ minute from the penalty spot. Juventus tried their luck through the Carlos Tévez-Álvaro Morata pairing but the break arrived before the bianconeri goal.

In the second half, Real Madrid tried to extend their lead to seal passage through to the final, and what would have been a second consecutive final. However, in a move started by Andrea Pirlo from a free kick, and followed up by Paul Pogba, Morata collected the ball, shot, and scored. Anxious to get a ticket to the Berlin final, both sides created danger at either end, but saves from Iker Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon prevented the score from changing, and consequently Real Madrid were deprived of a Spanish final against FC Barcelona on 6 June.
