Jhon Córdoba (Colombia, 1993) is enjoying an excellent season with Granada in what is his second Liga BBVA campaign. His four goals, one of those gave the Andalusian outfit their 200th win in Liga BBVA, have caught the attention of a lot of clubs, although he insists he is only focused on his current side. The 21-year-old spoke to LFP.es about his desires and aspirations.

LFP.es: It's your second season in Liga BBVA and you've managed to record wins on a regular basis. How do you feel?
Jhon Córdoba: Very good, thanks to god. I think that things, despite the fact the group knows what the current situation is, have gone well and we have to carry on working in order to continue moving forwards.

LFP.es: You're on course to record your best goalscoring figures this season; what does it mean to be Granada's main man?
Jhon Córdoba: It is something that fills you with joy and motivation to carry on working. We know that life is full of challenges and this is one of them. Right now we are in a difficult situation, both my teammates and I, and we have to continue working hard in order to achieve our goals, which is to win games.

LFP.es: When you started in football did you think your progress would be this rapid?
Jhon Córdoba: This was always one of my dreams and now I'm in my second season. Things could well have been better if I'd have scored some more goals, but the positive thing is that people are saying good things, and if they are saying good things about me, that’s a good thing.

We know that life is full of challenge and this is one of them

LFP.es: One of your goals for Granada this season was historic, given it meant that it was the side's 200th win in Liga BBVA. What did that moment mean for you?
Jhon Córdoba: Well, I took it quite calmly because I always go out to play with motivation and a desire to do things well. This chance came up, but right now we have to carry on working well.

LFP.es: Carlos Bacca and Radamel Falcao are two strikers who have left their mark… Do you see them as a shadow looming over you or as players to aspire to?
Jhon Córdoba: I am looking ahead to everything with a calm head because I am still a young striker. I joined this division at 20 years of age and thanks to God things have been going well so far. I hope to continue improving day by day.

LFP.es: Your good performances for Granada have been turning a few heads in other Leagues. Where do you see your short-term future?
Jhon Córdoba: I'm focused on life at Granada at the moment. My thoughts are on staying here, I have a five-year contract and the aim is to keep the team up. We are aware we have to take it one step at a time and my mind is only thinking about the present.

LFP.es: Speaking about the team's current form, what do you think has been held Granada back from getting better results?
Jhon Córdoba: It relates to all of us. We win and lose together, there have been occasions when we haven't had luck and other times when we have. There's still time for us to change this situation and make our push towards salvation.

Madrid are a tough opponent, but our mentality as we search for good results will be positive

LFP.es: What needs to be done in order to change things?
Jhon Córdoba: Continue working hard and honing in on goal. There are eleven of us on the pitch and we all make mistakes, so we have to make fewer of them and win our crunch games.

LFP.es: You have a tough test ahead this weekend: Real Madrid. How do you prepare for a game like this with the knowledge that they need points?
Jhon Córdoba: We understand that this is a different kind of match. We know what we need and are aware that we have to play all our remaining games as if our lives depended on them. And this will be just another one of those upcoming matches.

LFP.es: What will the key factors be for Granada picking up points in the Bernabéu?
Jhon Córdoba: Madrid are a tough opponent, but our mentality as we search for good results will be positive. Our motivation and eagerness to win the game will be fundamental to our chances of getting a good result on Sunday.

LFP.es: If you had to bet on the result, what would your prediction be?
Jhon Córdoba: Winning is fundamental for us. Whether it be 1-0 or 2-0, the important thing is that we win.
