Javier Tebas: "LaLiga has to get close to the audiovisual value of the Premier League"

Javier Tebas participated this Thursday in a breakfast-colloquium organized by Diario Sur. LaLiga’s president gave a talk on "The football industry and its socio-economic impact", in which he explained the award of the exploitation of audiovisual content and the reduction of debt in Spanish football.

The president said that "LaLiga has some crossroads to resolve in Spanish football, especially the situation of competition with other leagues" and pointed that the Premier League dominates the Asian market: "They sell their broadcasting rights for 2,600 million euros in their domestic market and we do it for 1,000 million" said the chief executive. On this matter, Javier Tebas said that "if we do not approach audiovisual revenues of the Premier League, LaLiga will become the ACB, and the English League in the NBA". Tebas added that "if we don´t have the best players in our teams, our broadcasting rights are worth less. This is a vicious circle".

In addition, the president of LaLiga referred to the economic and financial transactions with third parties (TPO): "They help small clubs to keep a player on his team and assure he doesn't leave to play in other leagues ", explained Javier Tebas, who defended its regularization. "We must regulate them, limit the number of players with club funds. That not all the signings of the squad are coming from funds, at most 50%. ".

On the arrests of members of FIFA, Javier Tebas said that "it was something that was known and was denounced for many years" and extended saying that "we are living a catharsis in football but I'm skeptical that the new candidates are going to give us a solution. Finally, Javier Tebas spoke about the possible improper alignment incurred by Real Madrid CF in the Copa Del Rey. "This is a big mistake that has been committed by someone from the club.
