The public presentation of LaLiga4Sports was held today, Thursday, at the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM, the Madrid Official Association of Architects). Representatives from all 64 Spanish sports federations, the Spanish Paralympic Committee and the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP) were in attendance, as were high-profile sports personalities such as Javier Fernandez, Ona Carbonell, Gemma Mengual, David Casinos and Lucas Eguibar.
The kick-off event for the project, whose mission is to promote the work of the Spanish sports federations, was attended by more than 200 guests. Miguel Cardenal, the president of the High Council for Sport (CSD), highlighted the importance of the initiative: "This is a fantastic occasion for Spanish sport. This project is a win-win for all of us. Where the CSD is concerned, it's one of the best things to have happened in many, many years."
LaLiga president Javier Tebas, for his part, expressed his excitement at the launch of #LaLiga4Sports: "Football has to give back to society by repaying everything it has received from it, and this project is about football giving back what is due to Spanish sport. This bond will last forever."
Jose Hidalgo, the president of ADESP, spoke equally enthusiastically: "It was high time that all of Spanish sport stood hand in hand. This project encompasses all of the values represented by sport."
During the gala event, footage was shown of some of the greatest feats in Spain's recent sporting history. Javier Fernandez, the world figure skating champion, made the most of the occasion to voice his gratitude: "Footballers are our heroes; knowing that they care about us makes us proud. Thank you so much for all the support."
Gemma Mengual and Ona Carbonell, meanwhile, sounded an ambitious note ahead of the Rio Olympics, at which they will be teaming up: "We're going to fight for a [gold] medal; we've both been runners-up at the Olympics in the duet and we believe we have a shot."
Under the gaze of the accredited media outlets that had turned out for the occasion, the Spanish sports stars present posed for a photograph to round off the proceedings. Now the ball is officially rolling on #LaLiga4Sports, the latest step in ongoing efforts for and with Spanish sport, which is in better health than ever.
