LaLiga has gone a step further in its drive to help Spanish sport across the board by signing a sponsorship deal with the figure skater Javier Fernandez and badminton ace Carolina Marin.

Two of Spain's most talented sportspeople will now be flying the flag for Spanish football all over the world, as part of LaLiga's efforts to boost the visibility and profile of Spanish sport. This commitment is epitomised by the LaLiga4Sports project, an initiative that has earned recognition and appreciation from across the country's sports scene from the outset and recently garnered a National Sport Award, which LaLiga president Javier Tebas was presented with by His Majesty King Felipe VI.

The unveiling of the sponsorship agreement took place on Thursday morning at a ceremony that was attended by president Tebas, as well as Jose Ramon Lete, the president of the High Council for Sport (CSD), and Fernandez and Marin themselves.

During the event, Tebas waxed lyrical about LaLiga's partnership with the two world-class stars: "There are many places across the planet where we're not as well-known as they are, so they're going to play a key role in helping us to expand the LaLiga brand. This is a bilateral deal through which we will grow hand in hand and we're thrilled to have them on board to represent us in places where they are more popular even than our great clubs."

For his part, the CSD chief welcomed LaLiga's ongoing support for Spanish sport: "We're grateful to the organisation and to Javier Tebas for ushering in a new framework of cooperation with other sports," said Mr Lete. "They're like an older brother to us, taking up the best values associated with sport – like generosity and camaraderie – and translating them into support for sportspeople and federations alike, as shown by the agreement signed with the High Council for Sport, under which they pledged millions of euros to support 64 sports federations."

Fernandez, the reigning world and European figure-skating champion, voiced his delight at the sponsorship deal and spoke with excitement about the work ahead: "We want to take the LaLiga brand to countries where we're well-known and very popular. Walking and working hand in hand will be highly mutually beneficial and we're going to do our very best. LaLiga is helping Spanish sport and the fact that they're going to pay for elite sportspeople's social security is one of the best developments in the country's sporting history."

Last but not least, Marin, the current Olympic, European and world badminton champion, enthused about what linking up with LaLiga means to her: "I've got a lot to offer in terms of LaLiga's expansion because badminton is the biggest sport in [many parts of] Asia and it'll be a pleasure to work with this brand there. I'm sure that teaming up with LaLiga and LaLiga4Sports is going to bring us some great experiences. I'm very grateful to LaLiga and the CSD for this agreement. It'll be an honour and a pleasure to promote values like passion, dedication and effort with them."

By signing this deal, Marin and Fernandez have joined the likes of Nicola Kuhn, Paula Badosa and Joel Gonzalez on the LaLiga sponsorship roster.
