CD Lugo beat UD Las Palmas 2-1 on matchday 24 of the Liga Adelante, a result that saw Quique Setién’s men end their opponents’ run of five league games without defeat, dealing them a setback that leaves their position at the top of the table under threat.
The first half got underway in even fashion, with chances for both sides. Lolo was making life difficult for the visiting defence, while Sergio Araujo had the clearest chances for the Canary Islanders. However, it was his team-mate Nauzet Alemán who beat Dani Mallo with a direct free-kick shortly before the break, to make it 0-1.
Lugo reacted by stepping up a gear and, at the beginning of the second half, levelled the match at the Estadio Ángel Carro. The referee awarded a penalty to the hosts and goalkeeper Casto Espinosa managed to stop Carlos Pita’s spot-kick, but the rebound fell to Iriome González, who was quickest off the mark to send the ball into the net. The Galicians were spurred on by the equaliser and attacked the away end with persistence. And from Lolo’s assist, Iriome again popped up to complete the turnaround with a right-footed effort.
