Malaga started slowly but grew into the game
Real Madrid hit the ground running, starting strongly and Malaga did well to weather the storm. With the scores level it was an evenly-matched affair but, as the minutes ticked by, the home side began to take control of the game. Isco and Jesé may have carved out chances for Zinedine Zidane's side, but Malaga were the bigger threat through Juanpi and Charles. Juanpi could have broken the deadlock in a one-on-one with Keylor Navas and the Costa Rican did well to keep him out.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring
Toni Kroos fired a free-kick into the area for Cristiano Ronaldo to head Real Madrid into a first-half lead. Having gone a goal up, Zidane's team went all out to extend their lead, but that was it for the first half. Cristiano now has 22 goals to his name.
Kameni saved a penalty
Just two minutes after Real Madrid's opener, the match referee awarded them a penalty. Cristiano stepped up to make it 2-0, but Carlos Kameni guessed right and saved the Portuguese's spotkick to keep his team in the game. Malaga could have equalised but they lacked accuracy in front of goal and went in 1-0 down at the break.
Malaga reacted in the second half
The home side levelled the game on 66 minutes. All their hard work was rewarded when Weligton crossed from the left, nobody cleared the ball and Raul Albentosa, alone at the far post, fired home past Navas.
A frantic final few minutes
There were chances at both ends. Malaga were the more dangerous side early in the second half, but Real Madrid reacted as the minutes ticked by. However, there were no more goals and it ended a point apiece at La Rosaleda.
