The whole of Huesca is in celebratory mood. Monday 21 May 2018 will certainly go down as a historic day for the city, with SD Huesca clinching promotion to LaLiga Santander, after winning at CD Lugo in the final fixture of Matchday 40 of LaLiga 1|2|3. The club will compete in the top flight of Spanish football next season for the first time in its history.
It has been a sensational campaign for Huesca, who have shown the highest level of consistency in LaLiga 1|2|3, which is a notoriously tough league. Proof of that is the fact that the club has spent 23 out of 40 matchdays so far in the automatic promotion places.
An eight-game winless run between Matchdays 27 and 34 did see doubt creep in temporarily, but Huesca quickly got back on track and ensured the club would reach the top flight for the very first time.
Some of the key factors behind a promotion campaign that not many people could have predicted, particularly given the highly competitive nature of LaLiga 1|2|3, include the fact that the squad is so well balanced, Rubi has been working his magic in the dugout and Gonzalo Melero and Juan Camilo Cucho Hernandez, the Colombian goalscoring starlet, have enjoyed outstanding seasons.
The club no longer has to dream about competing with the very best on a regular basis, given that the dream has now come true.
