History of the Iscar Cup

The Iscar Cup has been staged in the town of the same name in Valladolid since 2011, establishing itself as a classic event on the Spanish football calendar at this time of the year thanks to the entertainment on offer and the enthusiasm which it inspires among all the participants.

The tournament was created as a tribute to Pedro Sanchez Merlo, a multifaceted local who had a distinguished career as a lawyer and journalist, including serving as the president of the Valladolid Press Association, to which he provided major impetus.

FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Valencia CF, R. Sporting, Getafe CF, Rayo Vallecano, CD Laguna and CD Los Gatos de Iscar had the privilege of taking part in the first edition. The tournament would steadily grow in the following years and opened its doors internationally by welcoming AC Milan, who would capture the title in 2012.

As well as Milan, previous winners include Barça (2013), Atletico Madrid (the holders) and Valencia, who are the only club to have claimed the trophy on more than one occasion after their triumphs in 2011 and 2014.

This will be the first edition of the Iscar Cup held under the auspices of the LaLiga Promises programme, established in 2014 with the aim of aiding LaLiga's internationalisation and reinforcing values such as respect, effort, teamwork and commitment through football.
