- "When they called me about the Betis job, it was an easy decision. It’s a pleasure to be here.”

- "I will give my all for this club. From here on in, I will prove myself with hard work and results.”

- "The fans deserve everything we can give them. They want a competitive team and that’s what we are going to give them.”

- "The more we have of the ball, the more we will enjoy ourselves.”

- "From now on, we have to start planning, start working, and prove ourselves up to the task on the pitch.”

- "We are Real Betis and little else matters.”

- (On comparisons with British managers such as Gary Neville and David Moyes who have worked in LaLiga): “I’m not British. I know LaLiga and speak Spanish. Football in England is totally different. I think my experience there will help me.”

- "This gives me the opportunity to work with Miguel Torrecilla (the new Betis sports director). We know each other and we understand each other.”

- "We have to thank Juan Merino a great deal. He’s a Betis man and has succeeded in achieving his objective which was to keep the team in the Liga BBVA."

- "I don’t want to speak about individuals. The more we speak about a player the more expensive he becomes.”
