Parity throughout the first half
The match started with good chances for both teams. The team from Asturias had a couple of opportunities to get ahead in the first few minutes, but they lacked precision. Simeone’s team had the same problem, they got close to their opponents box with no luck.
Mishap
In the 10th minute, after a hard blow, Sergio Alvarez had to leave the pitch with a shoulder injury. Without warming up, Nacho Cases took over his spot. This wasn’t the only setback for the away side, as Guerrero also had to be substituted in the 25th minute for Carlos Castro after an ankle injury. On the other hand, Atletico de Madrid also had to make an unexpected substitution: Juanfran left the game and Gamez came on to take his place.

Atletico, getting better as the game went on
As the minutes went past, the home team moved their lines up. With Griezmann and Koke as the most active players, Atleti started to dominate and Sporting showed their best defending version. They stopped Atletico from scoring in the first half.
Oblak
The goalkeeper was essential for his team. Oblak appeared on the scene and reacted perfectly. The home keeper saved the first Sporting goal, stopping a shot by Halilovic in the 36th minute. Also in the 68th, he blocked a long shot that meant he kept a clean sheet throughout the whole 90 minutes.
Last minutes for the home side
Atletico wrapped up their substitutions with Oliver taking over from Carrasco and Correa from Koke. Yet again, Griezmann showed off his quality and pushed his team on. Atleti didn’t stop harassing Sporting’s penalty area. They didn’t give up and fought until the end. The hard work had its reward. The French striker gave Atletico the victory with a goal in the 93rd minute. The final score was 1-0.
Fast, opportunistic, intelligent… The goal by @AntoGriezmann is worth three points. Magnifique! #OhLala #GoAtleti pic.twitter.com/r3hJhnmlvq
