UD Las Palmas climbed back into the automatic promotion spots for the Liga BBVA after defeating CD Numancia 2-0 on matchday 9 of the Liga Adelante. The Argentinian Juan Culio and Hernán Santana were the heroes of the home side on Gran Canaria after scoring the goals.
It was a very hard-fought game between the Canary Islands club and the team from Soria in the first half. But it was the home side that started to make headway as the minutes went by, leading to the first goal of the match. Midfielder Culio acrobatically headed an over-hit cross into the net to open the scoring and ease the tension for Paco Herrera’s men. Just before the break Las Palmas could have doubled their lead, but they were unable to finish off their onslaught against a stubborn Soria team.
In the second half, the islanders ended up a man down, which led to Numancia controlling possession. Braian Rodríguez came close to equalising with 10 minutes to go, but the woodwork denied him his goal. The home side responded with a Sergio Araujo free kick, but the keeper Munir sent it out for a corner. Hernán finally scored the second and deciding goal of the game in injury time.
