Goal fest to close out the 2014-15 Liga BBVA season

Real Madrid earned a 7-3 win over Getafe CF in the final fixture of the 2014-15 Liga BBVA season. After a first half that ended 3-3, the hosts hit four without reply after the break to seal victory. 

A goal-fuelled first 45 minutes saw the scorers troubled as many as six times at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. On 13 minutes, Cristiano Ronaldo got his first of the night and the 1000th in the division this term. Nine minutes later, Sergio Escudero levelled with a powerful drive. Shortly afterwards, Diego Castro put los azulones ahead, but the visitors’ advantage proved short-lived as, in the space of just two minutes, Ronaldo was on target twice more. On 32’, he made it 2-2 after heading in a pass from Marcelo towards the heart of the area, and put Madrid ahead from the penalty spot on 34’, completing his hat-trick in the process. Just before half time, however, Mehdi Lacen equalised for Getafe from a corner.

There was little let-up to the scoring after the break. After 47 minutes, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández put los blancos back in front, before James Rodrígez got in on the act, hitting the fifth with a free-kick. Alexis Ruano could have cut the gap from close range, but his finish flew off target, and strikes from Jesé Rodríguez and Marcelo then rounded off a night of goals in the Spanish capital, as Real Madrid end the season in second and Getafe finish fifteenth.
