Girona FC earned a valuable 3-0 win over AD Alcorcón on matchday 23 of the Liga Adelante season. The Pablo Machín-led side, for the moment at least, lie second, three points behind the league leaders, UD Las Palmas. The Catalans had not won at home since November when they came out on top against RC Recreativo.

Pepe Bordalás’s men had the better of the goalscoring opportunities during the first half. Isaac Becerra pulled off a great save on the half-hour mark to keep a David Rodríguez strike from finishing in the back of the net. The tempo of the match increased after the break, especially that imposed by the home side. The deadlock was broken in the 57' when Óscar Ramalho made the most of Ángel Sánchez’s poor clearance. The visitors tried to string some dangerous moves together after going behind but were unable to create any clear chances.

The second goal came from a counter-attacking move. Cifuentes robbed the ball in the centre of midfield and pushed forward into the oppositions’ box where he passed to Felipe Sanchón who set up Fran Sandaza to finish off the move and make it 2-0. Alcorcón’s problems were compounded when they were reduced to ten men after Dakonam Djené was sent off for a second bookable offence. Felipe Sanchón made it 3-0 in the 90th minute.
