This will be a special weekend in LALIGA EA SPORTS given that all five of the Madrid clubs are playing within the Community of Madrid. One of the matches is between Getafe CF and CD Leganés, who’ll do battle in the south of Madrid. Their derby is historic and it is returning, in Matchday 6. This is the only derby in Spain that has taken place in all of the divisions, from the equivalent of the current Tercera Federación to LALIGA EA SPORTS.

Getafe and Leganés are two neighbouring cities located in the south of Madrid and they each have a strong footballing tradition. Their first meeting in LALIGA EA SPORTS came in 2017, at which point they had gone 4,857 days without facing each other. They then began to play more regularly, but now they haven’t played in four and a half years, since January 17th 2020. In total, they have contested six derbies in the top flight, with three wins for Getafe CF, one for CD Leganés and two draws.

Now, their seventh duel in LALIGA EA SPORTS will take place and both teams will be keen to break the deadlock in the overall head-to-head record in this derby, given that each team has won 22 times, in addition to 18 draws. Most of their meetings came in the former Segunda B and Tercera divisions, now known as Primera Federación and Segunda Federación, as they met 12 and 16 times there respectively. Across those two divisions there is also a head-to-head tie, with nine wins each and 10 draws.

Both teams arrive at this derby in similar form

Both Los Azulones and Los Pepineros come into the clash in similar situations. Getafe CF have competed well and either drawn or narrowly lost in every match so far, having drawn three times and lost by one goal in games against Sevilla FC and Real Betis.

CD Leganés have managed to win a game already, as they started off with two draws and a victory, but now they’re going through a tough run of form with three consecutive defeats. Borja Jiménez’s side are still trying to bed in new signings Sébastien Haller and Matija Nastasić, while Juan Cruz has stood out already in the top tier and is looking sharp.

It promises to be a great game at the Coliseum this Sunday, one that’ll be played in front of an electric atmosphere and one that’ll continue the story of a very historic rivalry.
