Last season saw Tottenham striker Harry Kane become the first Englishman to finish as the leading scorer in the Premier League since 1999/00. The sharpshooter's 25 goals were enough for him to top the charts and follow in the footsteps of Kevin Phillips, the last English player to accomplish the feat, who led the way with his 30 goals for Sunderland at the turn of the millennium.
Spurs became the first English club to lift a continental trophy when they triumphed in the 1963 Cup Winners' Cup. They subsequently tasted glory in the inaugural edition of the UEFA Cup in 1972, beating fellow English side Wolverhampton Wanderers, before claiming that title again in 1984.
Ex-Spain international Toni Jimenez, who graced RCD Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid and Elche CF during a distinguished LaLiga playing career, is currently part of the Tottenham coaching set-up. The former goalkeeper arrived in London in May 2014 alongside head coach Mauricio Pochettino, with whom he had worked during the latter's time at the helm of Espanyol, whom the Argentine also played for. There is also a second Spaniard on the Spurs coaching staff: Jesus Perez, who serves as Pochettino's assistant.
Tottenham's badge features a cockerel and a vintage football. The cockerel was chosen because these animals have spurs, meaning they tie in with the riding spurs of legendary historical figure Harry Hotspur, from which the club gets its name and nickname. The cockerel and ball also have pride of place at the top of one of the stands at the club's stadium, White Hart Lane.
Spurs' biggest rivals are North London neighbours Arsenal and the derby between the two is one of the most hotly contested in European football. The pair have faced off over 150 times in the English top flight. Their two most recent Premier League meetings, last term, were a couple of draws (1-1 and 2-2).
