- The stadium is named after Francisco Artes Carrasco, who was the first head of the city council's sports committee and president of CD Lorca during the 1950s. A commemorative plaque at the entrance to the ground stands in honour of the local legend: 'The city of Lorca pays tribute and remembers the distinguished figure of Lorca-born icon Francisco Artes Carrasco, whose name lives on through this stadium.'
- A friendly fixture between Lorca Deportiva CF and FC Barcelona was held on 5 March 2003 to mark the opening of the stadium, a game in which Los Azulgranas cruised to a comprehensive 4-1 victory. Amongst the Barça goalscorers that night were LaLiga ambassador Gaizka Mendieta and Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme.
- Lorca share the Artes Carrasco with CF Lorca Deportiva, who have just gained promotion to Segunda Division B. The stadium has previously played host to LaLiga 1l2l3 football, with the now-defunct Lorca Deportiva CF competing in the second tier during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons.
- On 14 October 2008 Lorca's home ground was the stage for the 2009 Under-21 European Championship playoff second-leg showdown between Spain and Switzerland. La Rojita secured a 3-1 extra-time win in front of almost 8,000 fans to book their place in the finals in Sweden courtesy of Raul Garcia's sliding finish, which sealed a 4-3 aggregate success.
- The stadium became a makeshift hospital in the wake of the major earthquake which struck the city on 11 May 2011.
