  • The club was established in the La Boca neighbourhood in 1901, after the existing sides Santa Rosa and La Rosales merged. It takes its name from the English translation of one of the major rivers in Buenos Aires, the Rio de la Plata, which played a bit part in the club's history.
  • Their home is the Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti, better known as El Monumental. With a capacity of 61,688, it is the biggest football stadium in Argentina and one of the largest in the Americas.
  • River have won 35 Argentinian titles since the league turned professional, in addition to an Intercontinental Cup, three Copas Libertadores, an Interamerican Cup and a Copa Sudamericana.
  • They top the all-time Argentinian Primera Division table, having won the most matches, scored the most goals and racked up the best goal difference in the competition's history. They also own the best record in terms of loss percentage and goals conceded per game out of the clubs that have regularly graced the top flight.
  • The club also has basketball, tennis, women's football, volleyball, hockey, futsal and handball departments, among others.
