Here is a bite-sized introduction to the Madrilenian outfit, who are set to break new ground by making their LaLiga 1|2|3 bow.

  • The club can trace its roots back as far as 1958, but was not established in its current form until 1976. That is when the first board of directors came together, with Ramiro Aguilar as president, and CF Rayo Majadahonda were officially born.
  • The Madrilenians first appeared in Tercera Division (the fourth tier) in the 1987/88 season and in Segunda Division B (the third division) a decade later. They are now primed to make history by playing in LaLiga 1|2|3 for the first time, despite having been back down in Tercera as recently as three years ago.
  • 13 May 1997 is a landmark date for Rayo Majadahonda. On that day, they signed a collaboration agreement with Atletico Madrid; since then, the two clubs have shared use of the facilities at the Cerro del Espino stadium and training ground.
  • Juan Carlos Moreno Rojo, better known as Carlitos, is one of the club's linchpins. Besides being the heart and soul of the dressing room, the Andalusian playmaker is a classy presence on the pitch, consistently catching the eye with his cultured left foot.
  • They booked their place in LaLiga 1|2|3 in the most dramatic fashion imaginable, a last-gasp winner – in the 97th minute, no less – snatching a 1-0 victory over FC Cartagena in the second leg of their playoff tie. Having lost 2-1 away at the Estadio Cartagonova in the first leg, they were promoted on away goals.
