• They won promotion to Italy's Serie A last season for the first time in the club's history and will make their top-flight debut on Saturday 21 August away to Bologna FC.

The club was founded in 1923 and usually plays its home games at the Stadio Ezio Scida, which holds 10,000 fans and is named after a footballer who died in a traffic accident. However, the game against Atletico Madrid will be played at the Stadio San Vito-Gigi Marulla in the city of Cosenza.

• Their home kit is a blue and red striped shirt and blue shorts and socks, whilst they don a white shirt, with a diagonal red and blue stripe, and white shorts and socks for away trips.

• Crotone have only ever had one foreign coach, Croatia's Ivan Juric, the man who led the team to Serie A for the first time in their history. Juric had stints at Sevilla FC and Albacete, as well as at Crotone themselves, during his playing career. Following his success last season, Genoa CFC have signed him as their head coach for this campaign.

• The club's emblem is a shark, which appears on its badge and is also superimposed on one side of the pitch at the Stadio Ezio Scida.
