  • Real Sociedad B are back in LaLiga SmartBank after a six-decade absence, having last featured in this division back in the 1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons. Despite then enjoying two notable campaigns in the second tier, finishing ninth and fifth, they were forced to be moved a division down following the first team’s relegation to LaLiga SmartBank.

  • The squad’s tender years wasn’t an issue for them when it came to facing the demanding challenge of getting promoted to LaLiga SmartBank. They are indeed one of the youngest groups of players to achieve such a feat, averaging just 21.6 years of age.

  • Real Sociedad B, also known as 'Sanse', are known as the 'potrillos’ (foals). This is because the Zubieta Facilities, where they both train and play their matches, are very close to the San Sebastian Racecourse.

  • In his second season at the helm of Sanse, Xabi Alonso has managed to get the team back to LaLiga SmartBank, after the club came close but fell at the playoff hurdle in 1991, 2006 and 2017. Curiously, in the promotion push of the 1990/91 it was Miguel Angel ‘Periko’ Alonso, Xabi Alonso’s father, who was in charge of the team.

  • The current Real Sociedad B team features several footballers who have made their debut with the club’s first team in LaLiga Santander. The most recent of them was Robert Navarro, who aged 18 made his professional debut last season on December 16, 2020, on Matchday 19 against FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Another player to make his first appearance for the club in 2020/21 was Aritz Arambarri, who as a 22-year-old came on for Real Sociedad in the 4-1 defeat to Celta de Vigo on Matchday 8. Urko Gonzalez de Zarate also achieved the same feat as a 19-year-old, after featuring against Real Madrid in his team's 0-0 draw on Matchday 2. In the previous season Jon Pacheco and Alex Sola also made their debuts at the same age, against Getafe CF on Matchday 32 and in a 3-0 victory against CD Leganes respectively.
