- It was officially opened on 20 September 2000, with a friendly match between Real Oviedo and Partizan Belgrade that ended 0-2. However, three days before had already been played a Liga BBVA match between the "asturiano" team and Las Palmas with the result of a 2-2 draw.
- The first goal at this ground was scored by Robert Jarni, by then Liverpool player. The first home team goal was made by Roberto "El Chino" Losada.
- It replaced the stadium of the same name that hosted Real Oviedo matches from 1932 to 2000. Its name is a tribute to the figure of Carlos Tartiere de las Alas Pumariño, first president of the club.
- Besides the qualifier for the UEFA EURO 2016 between Spain and Slovakia held the past September 5, the Carlos Tartiere Stadium hosted two other official matches of the Spanish National Team. The first one was a Spain vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, qualifier for the 2002 World Cup, while the second was a clash between Spain and Latvia for Euro 2008.
- Just before stepping on the pitch, players can read the motto 'Never surrender' in the field tunnel.
