SÁB 06.06.2015
FC Barcelona closed out the 2014-15 season in style by winning the UEFA Champions League in Berlin. The Catalans beat Juventus 1-3 through goals from Iván Rakitić, Luis Suárez and Neymar Jr, while Álvaro Morata managed to level matters for the Italians at one point. This marks the fifth European Cup/Champions League title in the Liga BBVA club’s history, and it is the second time they have clinched the treble.
Barcelona could not have hoped for a better start, taking the lead in the fourth minute through Iván Rakitić, who finished off a pass from Andrés Iniesta. Los azulgrana were in inspired form after going in front and were at their best during the opening 20 minutes, however, they were unable to capitalise on their dominance with another goal. Things began to settle down, which favoured Juventus who, having been slow to adjust to the tempo of the match, came close to equalising thanks to Álvaro Morata, but the Spanish striker’s shot went wide. There was no change on the scoreboard before the half time break and Barça took their narrow lead into the second half.
The Catalans carried their intensity and domineering attitude into the second half, although Luis Enrique’s men once again lacked that killer instinct to put their chances away. Just as Barcelona looked to be in full flow, Morata popped up by latching onto a Marc-André ter Stegen parry in the 55th minute to make things all square. The goal really lifted the Italians and they could have gone ahead soon after, but with everything going in the Old Lady’s favour, Luis Suárez found the back of Gianluigi Buffon’s net to get Barcelona’s second. With the match almost over and the Italians throwing everything up front in search of another equaliser, Neymar widened the gap even further by finishing off a well-worked counter-attacking move.
