RCD Espanyol finished 2-0 winners in their home ground against Real Sociedad through a Lucas Vázquez goal from play in the 7th minute and a Stuani finish in the last minute, in one of the weekend’s Liga BBVA matchday seven fixtures.
The San Sebastian side pressed high up the pitch during the initial stages of the game, which made it difficult for Espanyol to get a hold of the ball. It was during this back and forth spell that the Catalans’ central midfielder Lucas Vázquez took the ball down in the box before coolly opening the scoring. From then on, Sergio González’s aim was clear: wait for the opposition to attack and hit them quick on the break in order to extend the lead.
Real Sociedad tried to mount a fight back after the break, but Jagoba Arrasate’s men were never really able to get things going. With the score so tight, the match remained an entertaining spectacle right until the end, with either side looking capable of scoring. As it happened it was Christian Stuani who killed off the game, making it 2-0 and securing all three points for his team. The result sees Espanyol move into eighth place in the table with nine points, while Real Sociedad remain in fifteenth with five points.
