Pau López
The Espanyol goalkeeper had one of his most outstanding nights. In the early stages of the clash he held his team with two saves of merit; first stopping a powerful shot by Zakaria Bakkali and later saving a one on one against Rodrigo Moreno. The keeper returned to shine at the start of the second half, stopping another attempt by Rodrigo.
Victor Alvarez's first goal
In the 18th minute, the "Blanquiazul" team managed to strike first on the scoreboard thanks to a goal from Victor Alvarez. A lateral free-kick by Marco Asensio was cleared by Santiago Mina, but the Espanyol footballer appeared in front of goal to score his first goal in Liga BBVA with a header.
Jaume, Valencia´s mainstay
If Pau Lopez shone at the home goal, Jaume Domenech did the same at visitor´s. Although the young goalkeeper of Valencia lost his unbeaten record, he starred in a number of worthwhile stops to keep his team hopes to overcome the match.
Change of plans for Nuno
Valencia coach faced a major setback in the second half. Gayà was injured and had to leave the pitch after 61 minutes, but Nuno Espirito Santo decided to introduce Feghouli looking for a better offensive power.
Espanyol pressure
One of the keys factors of the game was the great pressure exerted by the Catalan team, forcing the opponent midfielders to receive the ball in an uncomfortable situations. Thus, the "Periquitos” were also able to retrieve many balls and go to the counterattack with danger.
