This Sunday saw Aachen's New Tivoli stadium play host to a veritable feast of football, as the LaLiga-organised Aachen Cup, the four-team tournament featuring Malaga CF, FC Cologne, Olympique Marseille and local side, Alemannia Aachen, provided no shortage of entertainment for the supporters in attendance.

Malaga took on Cologne in the tournament opener in a game which saw the Germans struggle to trouble Carlos Kameni in the Blanquiazules goal. The Andalusian outfit booked their place in the showpiece courtesy of Pablo Fornals's goal, with the youngster stabbing home after a fine cutback from Keko. In the other semi-final, Alemannia Aachen overcame Marseille on penalties to claim an unexpected win against their higher-profile opponents.

Indeed, it was the tournament hosts who ultimately went on to lift the trophy, edging past Malaga in the final when lady luck once again shone on the minnows - who play in the fourth tier of German football - in the shootout. The thousands of supporters congregated inside the New Tivoli stadium were sent into raptures as LaLiga ambassador Fernando Sanz crowned the German outfit as champions in a ceremony which concluded a fine day of football in Aachen.

As for Malaga, the LaLiga side are left to reflect on their participation in yet another highly beneficial LaLiga World event. Juande Ramos was able to offer virtually all of his squad some playing time, giving the new additions the opportunity to bed in ahead of the 2016/2017 campaign. Many Germany-based Boquerones fans, who are rather more used to watching their side through a television set, made the most of the opportunity and flocked to Aachen to see their heroes at close quarters.

The third-place playoff saw Cologne claim a 2-1 win over Marseille, as the French side finished the Aachen Cup 2016 in last position.
