Sports fans from the world over will turning their attention to La Liga come Sunday night at 9pm. FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF meet for the second time this season with the Liga BBVA top spot to play for. A clash on the pitch that will play out on social media and become the most active Clásico ever on Twitter.
Both sides, along with La Liga (@LaLiga) will be using the same hashtag, #ElClásico, in order to provide pre-match stats as well as a minute-by-minute of the game itself. Commentary from all over the world will come under the umbrella of this tag. So much so that followers of the La Liga, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF accounts will be provided with unique content on the online platform.
The first of these campaigns will be run by La Liga, who will be publishiong a Clásico 'Voting Card'. Beginning on Thursday, 19 March, and ending just seconds before the kick off, fans from both teams will be able to make predictions by voting for which team will win on the official La Liga Twitter account. The outcome of this vote will be made public moments before the game begins.
Additionally, La Liga will analyse both teams and provide the most interesting facts so that the Clásico can be viewed from every possible angle using the hashtag #ElClásicoEnDatos. In the days leading up to the match there will be a chance to look back over photographs, archive videos and legendary players from past clashes between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid by searching for the tag #RecordandoElClásico.
On the day of the game, the official La Liga website will provide users with a Social Hub where the actions of fans using the #ElClásico tag on Twitter will be integrated together. This tool will display tweets from the game’s stars, contain heat maps to show what part of the world the messages are being sent from and provide a figure of how many followers are using the hashtag.
