Saturday’s clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid was watched Coast to Coast in the USA with Peñas from both clubs crammed into bars across the country. On top of the live outdoor viewing event LaLiga organised with beIN SPORTS in Miami, we tagged along with supporters in New York, Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles to experience the highs and lows of #ElClasico through their eyes.
The Penya FC Barcelona New York City, who gathered up to 1,000 fans for the game, were the first to be able to celebrate as Gerard Pique powered in a header from a corner to put the Liga BBVA leaders ahead just after halftime.
For eight long minutes the tension was palpable for the Real Madrid Houston Peña, and the Peña Madridista Los Angeles as they awaited a response from Zinedine Zidane’s men.
First came Karim Benzema’s acrobatic volley to level the game up for Los Blancos and then with five minutes to go Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the winner to stun Barcelona’s supporters and spark ecstatic celebrations for the fans of Real Madrid.
The Peña Madridista Los Angeles had a record 525 fans officially watching the game with some having travelled around 200 miles to be there. They said that numbers were swelled in Tom's Urban bar as more people were attracted away from other sporting events being shown to watch the game unfold at the Camp Nou!
