Efficient Atletico ease to three points

The Rojiblancos overcame an out-of-form Deportivo to record their fourth win on the trot with goals from Saul, Griezmann and Correa.

Saul's bullet header

Atletico Madrid totally dominated a game in which they enjoyed the lion's share of possession throughout. The home side's supremacy was rewarded on 18 minutes as a Filipe Luis centre was nodded home by Saul. The midfielder burst into the box to beat Manuel Pablo to the ball and send his header into the ground and up into the top corner of German Lux's goal.

Some respite for Victor Sanchez's men

After an electric start from Diego Simeone's side, there was then some let up for the visitors. Atletico sat back on their lead which invited RC Deportivo to push further up the field. The hosts began to give the ball away cheaply as Fede Cartabia and Celso Borges sought to claw the Galicians back into the game. However, despite their spirited response to going behind, Victor Sanchez's men failed to restore parity.

Griezmann should have made it two...

On the stroke of half time, the French marksman came a whisker away from doubling his side's advantage. Antoine Griezmann sped away from his man to find himself clean through with only Lux to beat. However, his outside-of-the-boot strike skimmed the outside of the post.

....No mistake second time round

Fifteen minutes later, Griezmann atoned for his earlier miss. Koke took a short corner and exchanged passes with Yannick Carrasco before slipping the ball into the area, where, without even taking the time to look up, the French international fired a shot into the far corner of Lux's goal to get his name on the scoresheet for the fourth successive game. However, Atletico weren't done yet and Correa, who had only just entered the fray, was next to get in on the act as the Argentine produced a cool slotted finish beyond the Deportivo goalkeeper.

Jona, Deportivo's brightest spark

The A Coruña outfit aren't having the best time of things right now and they failed to arrest their slide against Atletico. Indeed, the Galicians are yet to win in 2016, however there was reason for optimism for Victor Sanchez in the form of Jona. The Uruguayan, who came in for the injured Lucas Perez, was a handful and came close to scoring on several occasions.
