EA SPORTS and LALIGA have taken another step forward in the promotion of grassroots football at a global level under the EA SPORTS FC FUTURES project, the EA SPORTS initiative that aims to invest significantly in community football and which, during the past month of March, has reached four new cities around the world: Málaga (Spain); Singapore; Cape Town (South Africa) and Jalisco (Mexico).
The presence in these four new cities is a step forward in the commitment of the EA SPORTS FC FUTURES initiative, boosting the funding and development of football. The aim of the action is to enable more and more children, regardless of their geographical location, to have the opportunity to enjoy and participate in the sport.
Since 5 March, EA SPORTS and LALIGA have been working together with local governments to present the renovation of community pitches in disadvantaged areas of these cities. The local artists in charge of rehabilitating the different pitches have been a fundamental part of the project, their work has brought life and local essence back to each of the cities; Play in Colors in Malaga, Tobyato, in Singapore; Karabo Poppy, in Cape Town and Trasheer, in Jalisco.
“Through FC FUTURES, EA SPORTS FC is investing in the future of football. A future that involves providing young people the tools they need to make a positive impact on the game and pursue their dreams," said James Salmon, Senior Director, Marketing at EA SPORTS FC. "Our vision is to inspire the world to love football and our mission is to provide greater access to sport. Our continued partnership and investment alongside LALIGA is another step towards this”.
Jorge de la Vega, Executive Director of LALIGA "We are confident that FC FUTURES LIGA is going to bring great joy to these communities. We want to support the children who live in these areas so that they can continue to play football, offering them the means and spaces where they can enjoy the game and continue to be linked to the values of this sport, which we share at LALIGA and EA SPORTS".
The renovation of these pitches not only provides local children with an improved physical space to play the sport they love, but also represents a long-term commitment to personal and community development through sport. Around 65.000 people residing in these four areas have been able to enjoy the renovated facilities since they were unveiled.
Over one hundred children were in attendance across these four events, who have been the first to discover the refurbished pitches in their communities and have also enjoyed very special training sessions with LALIGA ambassadors Fernando Morientes, Gaizka Mendieta, Miguel Torres and Nassief Morris.
As part of this commitment, the EA SPORTS FC FUTURES project also incorporates three other important pillars: the awarding of study and training scholarships; the donation of 10,000 footballs to NGOs and local administrations and a training programme inspired by the EA SPORTS FC 24 video game. All of these were highlighted at the four events held during the month of March, specifying that every year 20 boys and girls from all over the world are trained with a scholarship at LALIGA ACADEMY. These scholarships allow them to improve their sporting performance and continue their academic training.
After these refurbishments in Malaga, Singapore, Cape Town and Mexico, a month of March comes to an end in which support for grassroots football has been the main protagonist, becoming, moreover, a global tool for the improvement and revitalisation of local communities.
