For many members of the Peña Eibar USA supporters' club, the day before the Basque outfit's opening LaLiga World clash will live long in the memory. They were able to meet their heroes, have a natter with them and even present them with a series of gifts during training.
Vice-president Fabian Gauna was overwhelmed with emotions. "I'm delighted to be here. I can't believe it," he stated enthusiastically. It would prove not to be the only surprise of the day for the supporters' club. After a training session at the Richard Wackar Stadium, where SD Eibar will take on the Philadelphia Fury, the squad headed to a fan event which Peña EibarUSA members attended in their droves and many youngsters were also present, hoping to meet their favourite players.
The Eibar players signed shirts and flags to the delight of supporters, as well as greeting fans of the Philadelphia Fury, the team against whom they will kick off their LaLiga World tour.
Eibar coach Jose Luis Mendilibar revealed his positive outlook on the trip to the United States: "I think we're succeeding in raising Eibar and LaLiga's profile." Goalkeeper Asier Riesgo was focused on a "competitive and attractive match" that he hopes will end in victory for the visitors.
"There aren't many teams that can go head-to-head with LaLiga sides. It's going to be really good for us," said Cris Vaccaro, the Philadelphia Fury coach. The two clubs will do battle on Sunday at 23:00 CET (17:00 local time) at the Richard Wackar Stadium.
