Draw in the leadership battle

The fight for the top in the Liga Adelante intensified in the Estadio de Gran Canaria on matchday seven of the championship. UD Las Palmas and R. Sporting came into the clash with just one point separating them in the table; the winner of the encounter would have taken first place in the table, but the match ended in a draw.

The match stuttered into life during the first ten minutes as the locals dominated possession and, through Sergio Araujo, tried to create danger in their opponent's box, but Cuéllar was more than up to the task. A long-range effort from Jony Rodríguez that deflected off a defender gave Sporting the lead before the break.

Eight minutes after the restart, Juan Muñiz received his marching orders. With an extra man, Paco Herrera's man began to dictate the match as they surged forward and broke into Cuéllar's area. The equaliser came after a cross from Guzmán Casaseca that Sergio Araujo fired into the back of the net. It was the Argentinian's eighth goal and he is now the Liga Adelante's top goal-scorer.
