A matter of centimeters
Equality was the dominant trend of the first half, although Real Betis was slightly superior. However, it was RC Deportivo who came closest to opening the scoring with a shot from long range by Fede Cartabia that grazed the goalpost defended by Antonio Adan.
Pepe Mel's setback
Betis coach was forced to do without Rafael Van der Vaart in the 49th minute, after the Dutchman left the field because of injury. The former Real Madrid player, who debuted with Betis shirt, was replaced by Dani Ceballos.
Fede Cartabia genius
The Galician team midfielder opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a beautiful shoot from outside the area. Antonio Adán could do nothing to stop a spin shoot that hit the crossbar before getting in the back of the net.
Quick reaction
The home team response to the goal of Cartabia was immediate. Pepe Mel´s team scored the 1-1 five minutes after conceding the 0-1 thanks to a goal from Brazilian Petros after a great personal action by Dani Ceballos.
Fajr finished off
With the 1-1 on the scoreboard and both teams struggling to break that equality was the team of Victor Sánchez del Amo who managed to tip the balance. Fayçal Fajr, another of Galician team reinforcements, took a good pass from Celso Borges to adjust the ball to the near post and score the 1-2.
