He's 22 and possesses a golden right foot. The football connoisseurs out there predict big things for him - although his current achievements show that he's ahead of schedule in this respect - whilst those who can’t lay claim to such an understanding of the beautiful game would tell you that his name is familiar, having heard it every matchday, weekend after weekend and game on game.
We're talking about Denis Suarez, a midfield starlet who, with the ball at his feet, is a delight to watch. This term, the youngster has established himself as a key man for a Villarreal CF side who have enjoyed a fine season themselves. That Marcelino's charges currently find themselves fourth in the league standings is no coincidence and is down, in no small part, to their diminutive footballer who names David Silva and Andres Iniesta as his childhood idols. Villarreal have collected 57 points so far this season, losing just six games along the way, whilst they're in with a shot of European glory, currently occupying one of the Europa League quarter-final berths.
Under Marcelino's tutorage, Suarez has honed his game and has become a real diamond, boasting a return which includes seven assists in his 27 Liga BBVA appearances. One of his strong points is that his presence out on the pitch serves to up the performance levels of those around him. He can often be seen nicking in to win the ball back, is adept at spraying it around and is regularly at the heart of his side's build-up play, all of which contributes to making Villarreal one of the most easy-on-the-eye and attack-minded sides in the division.
His tender years haven't prevented him from carrying his team on occasion, whilst he's managed to establish himself as one of the mainstays of the Villarreal side in the space of just half a season. For now, and whilst he continues to astound admirers from both near and afar, he'll go on directing the Villarreal orchestra, to ensure that it continues to be one of the most in-tune in the Liga BBVA.
