Suarez purple patch goes on

Villarreal's young starlet continued his outstanding recent form here, with the Galician midfielder following up on an impressive display against SD Eibar with a stand-out performance in this one. The game was 15 minutes old when Suarez collected an Adrian Lopez pass on the edge of the box before firing past Vicente Guaita to put Marcelino's troops into the ascendancy.

Sarabia at the heart of everything

Despite falling behind, the side from the outskirts of Madrid didn't crumble and indeed got stronger as the game wore on. Pablo Sarabia looked to be the most likely architect of a Getafe comeback, with several chances falling the way of the Azulones number 10 in the first half. The most clear-cut of these openings came on 30 minutes, but Sarabia could only fire his effort into the side netting.

Castillejo spurns a golden opportunity

Although Getafe did work themselves back into the contest, the Yellow Submarine could easily have doubled their advantage before the interval. Samu Castillejo received a Leo Baptistao pass, but he squandered the chance to have made it 2-0 after firing his shot off target. The hosts' inability to build on Suarez's opener left the game finely poised going into the second period.

Asenjo to the rescue

The visitors came very close to restoring parity after the break, but they found themselves up against the alertness of Sergio Asenjo, who single-handedly kept his side's lead intact. There were 67 minutes on the clock when Villarreal defender, Bruno Soriano, attempted to clear his lines, but contrived only to send the ball towards his own goal, fortunately from a Villarreal perspective, their number 1 was on hand to save the day.

Bakambu comes off the bench to seal it

The Madrigal faithful were spared a nerve-racking last five minutes thanks to Cedric Bakambu's goal. The Congolese forward had only entered the fray on 74 minutes - in place of Adrian Lopez -, but during this brief cameo he met a corner from within the six-yard box to add to his tally for the season and seal maximum points for the home side.
