Celta hold out for the three points

Home team dominate from the off
RC Celta came out and dominated the game, as is customary when playing at Balaidos. Daniel Wass, Pablo Hernandez and Marcelo Diaz formed a magnificent triangle that allowed Eduardo 'Toto' Berizzo’s men to keep hold of the ball and create problems for SD Eibar, another team who like to make good use of their possession.

Guidetti strikes first
It only took 30 minutes for the Swedish striker to make it 1-0 with a masterful finish. Following a sensational move by Iago Aspas, the Spaniard played a left-footed pass to his teammate, who finished with a deft chip. The first goal of the night went to John Guidetti, who was on fire in the opening half.

Jonny ventures forward
The defender, who was playing in the unfamiliar left-back position, offered a real attacking threat, and his constant runs forward were rewarded with his best moment of the match. His strike from the left flank ricocheted off an Eibar player and doubled Celta’s advantage.

Nolito returns
Following several months out injured, Nolito returned to the fray with Celta. His last game for the club was back on 12 December. Although he was still a little off the boil, the Spaniard did his best to get back into the demanding pace of the competition.

Berjon and Inui set up an exciting finish
Eibar burst into action in the final stages of the game. Jota Peleteiro won a penalty and Saul Berjon converted from the spot. Shortly afterwards, Takashi Inui made it 3-2 from the corner of the area and sparked an exciting finale. In the end, the scoreline remained the same, meaning that Celta make a provisional return to the European places.
