Carlo Ancelotti will not be in charge of Real Madrid next season. That was the message from the Madrid club as communicated by the president, Florentino Pérez, during a press conference held on Monday 25 May in the Santiago Bernabéu.
"The Board of Directors have taken the decision to relieve Carlo Ancelotti of his duties. As we all know, the level of expectation at Real Madrid is enormous and we believe that now is the time for a change of direction in order to win more titles and reach our peak ahead of a new era", stated the club’s chief executive. Additionally, Florentino Pérez "thanked" Ancelotti for his work and went on to say that the identity of the next manager will be announced "next week".
The Italian coach joined Real Madrid in June 2013 and, during his first season at the helm of the Madrid outfit, he managed to clinch the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League titles. This season, Ancelotti stirred los blancos to victories in the UEFA European Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, and bid farewell to the Liga BBVA by getting the team to second place with 92 points.
