Changes in the starting line-up
Zinedine Zidane rang the changes to his starting line-up, with the Frenchman resting several players who had featured in the midweek Champions League defeat to Wolfsburg. Isco and James were both handed starting berths for the first time in five outings, whilst the hosts' backline included Alvaro Arbeloa, Nacho and Dani Carvajal, the latter coming in at the expense of Danilo. One man who wasn't afforded a rest was Cristiano Ronaldo and the Portuguese striker was at the heart of everything for Madrid.
James draws first blood
The Colombian celebrated his return to the starting XI by getting his name on the scoresheet. Seven games on from his last goal and with just five minutes on the clock, James converted his second free-kick of the season to bring his goals tally to six.

A prolific Real Madrid
The first half was certainly not short on goals, as Real Madrid doubled their lead after Lucas Vázquez produced a neat finish on 18 minutes, whilst Ronaldo got in on the act a minute later, before Jese rounded things off on the stroke of half-time. It was a first-half display in which the Blancos showcased all of their attacking prowess, whilst looking tight in defence, where Nacho was the pick of the bunch.
Baston chance to reduce the arrears
Eibar's clearest goalscoring opportunity fell the way of their forward, Borja Baston. With 79 minutes on the clock, the Spanish hitman very nearly grabbed a consolation, but his headed effort from a corner crashed against the bar, with Gonzalo Escalante unable to direct the rebound on target.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Following on from his appearance here, the Portuguese striker has now featured in all 32 of Real Madrid's Liga BBVA fixtures this season, a feat which has only ever previously been achieved by Manuel Sanchis, back in the 1994/95 campaign. Ronaldo played a starring role against the Basques, laying on two goals and netting his side's third. Following on from today's strike, the Real Madrid number 7 currently tops the Liga BBVA scoring charts having chalked up 30 goals so far this term.
