Barrenetxea passes away

José Luis Barrenetxea, who was an ex-board member and spokesperson for Real Sociedad de Fútbol, has passed away at the age of 59 from a long-term illness.

Barrenetxea was a member of the board for four years under the presidency of José Luis Astiazarán. During his time as a member of the board, the Basque club finished second in the 2003/04 Liga BBVA and played in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

Real expressed its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones in a statement on the team's website.
