FC Barcelona dominated the semi-final against Guangzhou right from the start. They created the clearest chances but were frustrated by a well-organised defense and an inspired goalkeeper Li Shuai, who stopped almost everything thrown at him.

Luis Enrique's team had 80% of the possession but were unable to break the deadlock until the 39th minute, when Uruguay's Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the Yokohama International Stadium. Li Shuai made a great save to deny Ivan Rakitic only for the ball to fall at the feet of Luis Suarez who scored.
The game followed a similar pattern in the second half. Barcelona were utterly dominant and it was Luis Suarez who proved decisive. Five minutes after the re-start, Andres Iniesta floated a pass into the area, the former Liverpool player controlled the ball with his chest, and volleyed in the second.
The Catalans started to enjoy themselves and the third soon followed. Luis Suarez completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, adding a hat-trick to the 13 goals he has already scored in the Liga BBVA to date.
