Group A

There were two games left to play: FC Barcelona v AS Roma and D. Alaves v Villarreal CF. In the first, Los Azulgranas produced a 3-0 win over the Italian side to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition. Meanwhile, the goalless draw in the second match saw Los Castellonenses  advance top of their group.

Group B

Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain FC went head to head with a quarter-final place on offer. It was Los Rojiblancos who claimed the prize with a 3-2 win – one of the most exciting games of the tournament.

Group C

After suffering defeat at the hands of RCD Espanyol, Sevilla FC were looking to make amends against Borussia Dortmund. However, it was not to be. The Germans came out on top with a 2-1 win situating them first in their group, with the Catalan team accompanying them through to the quarter-finals.

Group D

Real Madrid had already qualified, but that did not stop them romping to a 4-0 win over JEF United. Valencia join the Madrilenians in the next round thanks to their 3-0 win over FC Internazionale Milano.

Quarter-finals

Juventus FC and Barcelona were the first two teams to line up in search of a berth in the semi-finals. It was Los Azulgranas who were celebrating at the final whistle thanks to the only goal of the game scored by Cristo with just 2 minutes played. Valencia then saw off Borussia Dortmund with a 14th minute strike by Andres Fernandez.

Arona was in for a gripping third game of the afternoon. There was nothing to separate Villarreal and Atletico in normal time and the match went to a penalty shoot-out. The heroics of the Atleti shotstopper Sergio Mestre, who saved two spot kicks, took his team through.

The final clash of the day saw Espanyol manage a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid through Fortuny's goal just ten minutes in.

The semi-final matches are as follows:

Valencia CF v RCD Espanyol

FC Barcelona v Atletico Madrid
