Liga BBVA matchday seven opened with a 1-1 draw between Getafe CF and Córdoba CF. After a first half in which neither team generated much danger, the second half was more vibrant. Patrick Ekeng and Babá Diawara both found the net in a game that was open until the end.
It was a very tight clash that started with few chances on goal. The best of them fell to Nabil Ghilas, but the Algerian’s shot was just wide after taking a deflection off a Getafe player. For the home team, it was Karim Yoda who caused the Blanquiverdes the most trouble.
After the restart, the intensity was cranked up a notch and, as a result, the two sides created more danger in their opposition’s area. Naldo came close to opening the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick but his shot was high of its mark.
As in the first half, Ghilas was very lively and in the 76th for a superb save from Vicente Guaita. A few minutes later, when the clock read 78, Córdoba found the net. Patrick Ekeng latched on to a loose ball from Getafe and left a few men in his wake before firing across the goal to make it 0-1. The Madrid side responded to the goal from the visitors and rallied in search of an equaliser. Fredy Hinestroza’s shot crashed into the crossbar before Babá Diawara put the finishing touches on a great cross from Sergio Escudero to give his team the draw in the 89th minute.
