Club Atlético de Madrid overcame Sevilla FC 4-0 at the Vicente Calderón Stadium, making it six games unbeaten for the Rojiblancos.
Two flashes of quality from the Madrid side in the first half put Diego Simeone’s men ahead before the break. Some fine skill from midfielder Jorge Resurrección ‘Koke’ striking the ball put his side in front in the 19th minute. From that moment on, everything was simpler for Atlético against a well organised Sevilla who were nonetheless unable to trouble goalkeeper Miguel Ángel Moyà as much as expected. Just before half time, Saúl Ñíguez made it 2-0 to the Rojiblancos with his head.
After the break, the Seville team opened up and stretched themselves in search of their first goal. The Madrid side, well organised and with the great attitude in defence that Simeone’s men are known for, waited for their chance to add a third goal that would virtually decide the game. The score came in the final stages of the encounter, after a penalty committed on Antoine Griezmann was converted by Raúl García. Raúl Jiménez, who had only recently taken to the field, added the final touch to make it 4-0. With this result, Atlético de Madrid ended a busy week of football in the Liga BBVA with seven points from a possible nine.
