Atletico Madrid are once again enjoying a magnificent season under the orders of Diego Simeone and, with ten matchdays to go until the Liga BBVA draws to a close, sit in second place in the championship, still intent on battling to lift the title they laid claim to two years ago.
The difference this time round, however, is that, while in previous seasons Atletico have traditionally shown themselves to be strongest at their own stadium, dropping a greater number of points when on the road, entirely the reverse is now true, with the team positively shining away from the Vicente Calderon. The Madrid-based team are currently La Liga's most successful visitors, having bagged themselves a total of 34 points away from home, to the 32 racked up by FC Barcelona and Real Madrid's 23.

Atletico have secured themselves eleven away wins this season, some of them at stadiums as tough to crack as the Bernabeu and the Mestalla, while they have drawn one and lost three. With four more visits on the schedule for this season, the Rojiblancos are already two away victories up on the total they achieved in the whole of last season.
The other La Liga team to have chalked up more points as visitors than in front of their home crowd, despite falling short of Atleti's success rate, are Real Betis. Betis have scored 14 points at their Benito Villamarin stadium, compared to the 19 they have secured on the road.
Simeone's statistics away from the Vicente Calderon now look very similar to those of the 2013/14 season, in which his team won the Liga BBVA title. In that campaign, Atletico boasted 13 wins as visitors, an impressive tally they look set to surpass this campaign provided they can maintain their current blistering form.
Keep up with all the latest from Atletico at @atletienglish.
