Atlético Madrid face Elche CF on matchday 33 of the Liga BBVA. Los rojiblancos are out to maintain their hold on third place against los ilicitanos, who need the points to ensure that the games ahead do not come under the category of 'cup final'. Fran Escribá’s team have picked up six points out of the last six available and want to remain in the top flight for another season. However, Diego Simeone’s side won’t make it easy for them. The Madrid outfit have added to the points column in their last nine fixtures, and have never lost to Elche on the 20 occasions that they have met at the Vicente Calderón.
Team news
The hosts will have a full complement available, while Elche are forced to approach the clash with a range of absentees. Escribá will be without Aarón Ñíguez, Mario Pašalić and Víctor Rodríguez due to suspension, while Sergio Pelegrín, José Ángel and Edu Albacar are injured.
Views from the dugout
"It’s an important match, because there are six games to go that are crucial to the club’s objective. We’re raring to carry on growing as we have done up to now," declared Atlético coach Simeone.
Meanwhile, Escribá commented that he does not expect an Atlético side "affected" by their elimination from the UEFA Champions League and stated that his team "will be competitive so as to try to get something from the game".
