The Madrid derby that pitted Real Madrid CF against Club Atlético de Madrid on matchday 3 of the Liga BBVA ended, for the second time in a row, with victory for the Rojiblancos. This time, Diego Pablo Simeone's men took the three points thanks to a 1-2 victory after goals from Tiago Mendes and Arda Turan.
The intensity with which the Rojiblancos went out onto the field at the Santiago Bernabéu led to them opening the scoring in the eleventh minute, from a corner taken by Koke that Tiago headed into the goal at the near post. Madrid understood that they had to respond and, though they did so and has several chances to level the match, the equaliser did not come until the 26th minute, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty. A series of saves from Miguel Ángel Moyá then ensured that the game was still level at the break.
The second half saw several changes in pace. Real Madrid looked to take the lead with shots from Karim Benzema and Isco Alarcón but in the end it was Arda who, with his entrance, turned the game around. The Turk opened up the field for Atlético, led several attacks and scored the winning goal for Simeone's men against their neighbours and biggest rivals. The Rojiblancos won at the Bernabéu again and leave Madrid with just three points from their first three matchdays in the Liga BBVA.
