UD Las Palmas claimed all three points for the first time in six Liga Adelante games in an enthralling matchday 31 encounter that saw no shortage of goals at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, as they defeated SD Ponferradina 4-2.
Both sides were eager for victory, leading to an intense first half that was brimming with chances and delivered goals. Sergio Araujo was key for Paco Herrera’s men, who took the lead through the Argentine forward, before doubling their advantage courtesy of Nauzet Alemán’s strike from Araujo’s pass. Despite the scoreline, the away team were not fazed and continued to look to find the net to get back into the game. Their persistence paid off when Jesús Berrocal hit the target to make it 2-1 ahead of the break.
After half time, neither outfit offered any let-up. Yuri de Souza and Pablo Infante continued to be the most incisive for Ponferradina and saw drives go close, but Las Palmas turned to their man in attack to make the difference, Araujo taking advantage of another defensive error from the visitors to re-establish the Canary Islanders’ two-goal lead. Yuri’s penalty rebound again reduced the arrears, but Alfredo Ortuño’s effort then sealed a 4-2 final result that hands his side their third win in the second half of the season.
