The arrival of Álvaro Cervera at CD Tenerife brought with it new hope. The manager born in Santa Isabel (Equatorial Guinea) took the reins of the Canary Island side in the 2012-13 season and, in the same year, he managed to return the team to the Liga Adelante. In his third campaign at the helm of Tenerife, Cervera is charged with keeping the enthusiasm alive and leaving the side's complicated start behind them. After the important 1-0 win over R. Racing C., the next challenge is posed by AD Alcorcón who have strung together six matches without a loss. "LFP.es, in-depth" analyses Cervera's possible starting line-up for the game.
Carlos Abad (goalkeeper)
Matches played: 3. Age: 21.
The young keeper made his first-team debut in the matchday 13 clash with UE Llagostera, coming on after the break to replace the injured Roberto Gutiérrez. Since then, Carlos Abad has been the number one goalkeeper for Tenerife and has provided plenty of demonstrations of his talent. In the last match, against Racing, one of his saves at the end of the game was enough to keep all three points at home.
Javi Moyano (right-back)
Matches played: 16. Minutes played: 1,350.
A mainstay on the right side of the defence for Tenerife. Moyano is one of Álvaro Cervera's shoo-ins, having started all 16 matches in the Liga Adelante and played every single minute. The role is not new to the player from Jaen, as he was also a regular starter in the two previous seasons.
Hugo Álvarez (centre-back)
Matches played: 10. Minutes played: 832.
One of the team's summer signings this year. He has won the full confidence of his manager thanks to his solid performances and participated in the last seven games. His position has also been filled by Unai Albizua, but the Basque player's injury has made Álvarez the first choice to accompany Carlos Ruiz in the centre of the defence.
Carlos Ruiz (centre-back)
Matches played: 15. Minutes played: 1,324.
The veteran centre-back from Granada has only missed one game, and that was due to a suspension. He has recovered more than 60 balls and few players provide such security at the back. Last season, his first on the island, he played in 40 matches and found the net three times. He can also play as a defensive midfielder.
Raúl Cámara (left-back)
Matches played: 13. Minutes played: 1,069.
The option preferred by Álvaro Cervera for the left side of the defence. 30-year-old Cámara, has more than 200 matches of experience in the Liga Adelante. R. Sporting, RC Recreativo and Xerez CD made the most of his services before he arrived at Tenerife in the 2013-14 season. In this position, Cervera has also used the young Igor Arnáez on three occasions.
Aitor Sanz (midfielder)
Matches played: 13. Goals: 1.
Tenerife's figurehead. He provides grit, hard work, perseverance and dedication to the middle of the pitch. He returned against Racing having come through a left-knee sprain, although he was not feeling one hundred per cent and started on the bench. He is expected to be back in the starting line-up this weekend, given the demands of the match against Alcorcón.
Vitolo (midfielder)
Matches played: 14. Goals: 3.
One of the stalwarts of the team. After five years in Greek football, where he played for Aris Salónica FC, PAOK FC and Panathinaikos FC, and some time with Elazığspor in Turkey, Vitolo returned to the club where he learned his trade and took his first steps as a professional. He is an expert penalty taker and has already scored three spot-kicks this season.
Suso Santana (winger)
Matches played: 16. Goals: 1.
Another of the big names in the Canary Island side. He formed part of the squad that won promotion to the Liga Adelante in the 2012-13 season and continues to be a key player in the team's strikeforce. Pacey and skilful.
Uli Dávila (attacking midfielder)
Matches played: 9. Goals: 1.
The Mexican, who scored the goal that took Córdoba CF to the Liga BBVA, arrived this summer on loan from Chelsea FC. Having gone through a period of adaptation, the attacking midfielder is expected to step up to the mark and become one of Tenerife's star players. There is a lot of hope resting on his shoulders.
Cristo Martín / Iker Guarrotxena (wingers)
Matches played: 15. Minutes played: 1,044. / Matches played: 13. Goals: 1.
Álvaro Cervera has two solid alternatives on the right flank. Cristo Martín is a player who stands out for his versatility, as he can play as a midfielder, winger or on either side of the midfield, while Iker Guarrotxena is a skilful winger who is on loan from Athletic Club.
Aridane Santana (striker)
Matches played: 15. Goals: 1.
Another of the players who won promotion with Álvaro Cervera, when he was the top goal-scorer in the Segunda División B with 25. With the suspension of Diego Ifrán, Aridane will be responsible for leading the attack and doing what he knows best; scoring goals.
