Alexander Sørloth faces former club Villarreal CF in his first game for Atlético de Madrid

Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth completed a transfer to Atlético de Madrid this summer, arriving from Villarreal CF with high expectations. Curiously, his very first official game for Los Colchoneros will be against his former team at the Estadio de la Cerámica, the stadium where he scored so often last term. 

Undoubtedly, this opening game will be a special one for the Norwegian, who wants to start his Atlético de Madrid career in the best possible way, to become an undisputed starter for Diego Simeone. With the capital city club also signing Julián Álvarez, he knows he’ll have to fight for minutes. The Norwegian comes into this season after a great 2023/24 at the Estadio de la Cerámica, when he scored 23 goals in LALIGA EA SPORTS. This season he hopes to continue that form in red and white. 

Last term, the Norwegian even scored a goal for Villarreal CF against Atlético de Madrid at the Estadio de la Cerámica, although in the end Los Rojiblancos won 2-1. Atleti fans are hoping that this season’s visit to this stadium will also deliver three points, and they wouldn’t mind if the Norwegian scored again. 

Two teams set to battle in the European positions 

Their match, which kicks off at 21:30 CEST on Monday, will set the tone for the new season, in which both clubs are expected to battle in the European positions.
