Alaves & Leganes dig deep to retain top spots in the Liga Adelante

The two sides are in firm contention to seal automatic promotion and hard-fought victories on the road ensured that their dreams of gracing the Liga BBVA next term remain fully intact. Indeed, Alaves now require just one more win to clinch promotion. Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the table things are hotting up in the fight to avoid the drop.

AD Alcorcon 2-1 CD Tenerife
The Madrilenians got their noses in front when David Rodriguez nodded home from point-blank range, but the Islanders drew themselves level after the break courtesy of a fine Thierry Moutinho strike. As the game entered its final stages, Mayor ghosted in at the near post to glance home Daniel Toribio's inviting cross to keep the hosts firmly in the playoff hunt.

R. Valladolid 0-0 Girona FC
There was no separating the sides at the Estadio Municipal Jose Zorrilla in an encounter in which both teams produced spirited displays, but ultimately failed to find a breakthrough. This stalemate sees Valladolid remain comfortably in mid-table, whilst Girona have lost ground in the battle to make the playoffs.

RCD Mallorca 2-1 Elche CF
Goals from Lago Junior and Pol Roige put Mallorca on their way to victory and despite Elche getting a goal back in the last minute, the hosts held on to claim all three points at the Iberostar Estadi.

CD Mirandes 0-3 Cordoba CF
The Andalusians registered a comfortable victory in their visit to Mirandes. Right from the off, Florin Andone was causing the hosts' backline all sorts of problems, but ultimately it was three late goals from teammates, Fidel, Domingo Cisma and Raul de Tomas that did the damage and saw the visitors come away with maximum points.

UE Llagostera 0-0 UD Almeria
With league survival on the line at Palamos, these two sides served up a pulsating encounter. Almeria had the better of the first half and came within the width of the woodwork from taking the lead, but in the end both teams had their goalkeepers to thank, as Rene Roman and Casto recorded clean sheets to earn their sides a point.

Gimnastic 1-0 At. Osasuna
Jose Naranjo was once again on hand to seal victory for Nastic. The Andalusian hitman has a knack of notching important goals and he was at it again against Osasuna to net a late winner. His sublime curling free-kick brought the home faithful to their feet and ensures that the Catalans remain on course to clinch automatic promotion.

SD Ponferradina 2-1 Albacete
Ponferradina emerged victorious in an enthralling contest at El Toralin courtesy of Sergio Aguza's winner. Jesus Berrocal poked home to put La Ponfe into the ascendancy, but Portu's cool finish levelled things for Albacete. This result affords Ponferradina some breathing space at the bottom, whilst it condemns Albacete to Segunda Division B football.

SD Huesca 1-1 R. Zaragoza

The Aragon derby served up some fine football, a fervent atmosphere and two cracking goals, as the local rivals shared the spoils in a pulsating encounter. An excellent Jean-Marie Dongou strike edged the visitors ahead, but Huesca restored parity on 62 minutes courtesy of an absolute corker from Samu Saiz. This draw sees both sides move a step closer to achieving their end-of-season targets, as Zaragoza continue their push for a playoff spot, whilst a point sees the hosts place further distance between themselves and the drop zone.

Athletic Club B 2-3 D. Alaves

Alaves took a massive stride towards promotion with a battling victory which saw them end the game with nine men. The hosts came back from 2-0 down to level things and they went on to put Jose Bordalas's charges under the cosh. At the death, Manu Garcia fired home to win it for Alaves, who now just need one more victory to seal promotion to the Liga BBVA, as Mendizorroza readies itself for a promotion party at the weekend.

R. Oviedo 0-1 CD Leganés

Ahead of this showdown, the visitors knew that only a win would do for them to regain second spot, and the Madrilenians coped admirably with the pressure. Leganes goalkeeper, Jon Ander Serantes produced heroics to deny Nestor Susaeta from the spot at a critical stage of the game and Gabriel Pires popped up to slot home a second-half winner and seal a vital victory for the visitors.
